Working with York
York's small-business scene is dominated by tourism and hospitality, but it's broader than visitors first assume. The BID levy covers most city-centre retailers, hospitality and leisure operators, and the BBC reported in 2025 that the BID itself is publicly flagging the effect of council parking charges on resident spending. Shambles Market, managed by Make It York, runs seven days a week with food, gifts and crafts stalls — the largest single concentration of independent traders in the centre. Out in the suburbs — Acomb, Clifton, Haxby — the high streets are full of tradesmen, salons and professional services serving residents rather than tourists. Fabrication Crafts, a social enterprise with a York shop, has stocked and supported Yorkshire makers for years. Monks Bar Model Shop has been family-run next to Monk Bar since 1963. Tourism is the engine, but the steady trades and the markets are the bones.
Every York site is hand-coded, mobile-first, and shipped on its own domain. There's nothing for you to maintain — hosting, SSL, backups, updates and small content edits are all in the £25/month plan. You'll deal directly with me from brief to launch, by email or WhatsApp, in plain English.
