Websites for Southwark businesses

Borough Market at London Bridge, Bermondsey Street's galleries, Maltby Street under the railway arches, and Walworth's East Street market.

Southwark is the London borough that runs from the Thames up through Bermondsey, Borough, Bankside, Walworth, Peckham and Camberwell, and most people know it by its postcodes before they know it by name. SE1 around London Bridge and Borough, SE17 around Walworth, SE15 around Peckham, SE5 around Camberwell, SE22 around East Dulwich. The landmarks do the heavy lifting on the postcards — Borough Market, The Shard, the south end of Tower Bridge — but the working economy is the smaller stuff underneath. Bermondsey Street is the gallery-and-restaurant stretch, Maltby Street runs the weekend food market under the railway arches, and East Street Market down Walworth Road has been trading as one of London's busiest street markets for decades.

Working with Southwark

Most of the Southwark jobs I get asked about are independents — cafés on Bermondsey Street, tradesmen working out of yards off Old Kent Road, salons and barbers on Walworth Road, professional services in the Borough and London Bridge offices. The borough's small-firm base sits on top of three anchor sectors: food markets, antiques trade and creative/arts. Borough Market alone runs more than 100 stalls and shops. Maltby Street Market has built a weekend food scene under the Bermondsey arches since 2010. The Friday Bermondsey Antique Market on Bermondsey Square has been trading for over 75 years. Southwark Council is also active on the high street — a Bermondsey Town Centre Action Plan was published in October 2025 with funding routed through the Thriving High Streets Fund. The two business improvement districts (Team London Bridge and Better Bankside) cover the commercial core between London Bridge and the river.

Every Southwark site is hand-coded, mobile-first, and shipped on its own domain. There's nothing for you to maintain — hosting, SSL, backups, updates and small content edits are all in the £25/month plan. You'll deal directly with me from brief to launch, by email or WhatsApp, in plain English.

Real Southwark small businesses, not stock photos

Every Southwark brief lands somewhere on the same map of shops, salons, trades and indie operators. Here are some of the real Southwark businesses I've researched while writing this page — the kind of place a clean £25/month site is built for.

Southwark Council allocated £25k of Thriving High Streets Fund money to Big Local Works under the Bermondsey Town Centre Action Plan (October 2025).

Why these industries cluster here
  • Food markets and street food

Borough Market runs more than 100 stalls and shops on the Southwark Street / Stoney Street site; Maltby Street Market has built a weekend food scene under the Bermondsey railway arches since 2010; East Street Market is one of London's largest street markets, trading since the 19th century.

  • Antiques and vintage trade

Bermondsey has been the antiques-trade heart of south London for decades. The Friday Bermondsey Antique Market on Bermondsey Square has been trading for over 75 years, and the wider Bermondsey Street / Tower Bridge Road area still pulls dealers from across Europe.

  • Creative industries and galleries

Bermondsey Street is lined with independent galleries and design studios — White Cube and the surrounding cluster sit alongside smaller independent operators; the area is also where London Bridge office space and creative tenants overlap.

Southwark Council published its Bermondsey Town Centre Action Plan in October 2025, with £25k routed from the Thriving High Streets Fund to Big Local Works to support existing high street businesses.

FAQs

Southwark web design — common questions

Do you build sites for businesses across all the Southwark postcodes — SE1, SE5, SE15, SE17, SE22?

+

Yes — anywhere in the borough. Most of the Southwark jobs I do are around Bermondsey, Borough and Walworth, but I've also built sites for cafés and tradesmen in Peckham, Camberwell and East Dulwich. The £25/month plan, 1-2 week turnaround and same-day small edits are identical no matter which SE postcode you're in.

Will you set up my Google Business Profile or do my SEO?

+

No — and that's deliberate. The £25/month plan covers the website itself: a hand-coded site on your own domain, hosting, SSL, backups, software updates, and same-day small content edits. I don't do Google Business Profile work, ranking packages, blogs, paid ads or social media. The basics of on-page SEO (titles, descriptions, fast loads) are included. Anything beyond that, I'll happily point you at someone who does it properly.

I run a small café or stall near Borough Market — is this the right kind of site for me?

+

It's exactly the kind of work I do. A single page, or a short few-page site, with your hours, address, a map link, a menu, and a contact form. Looks right on a phone, loads fast, and gives you a link to put on Instagram, your window or a business card. The site lives on a domain registered in your name, and small edits (a new opening hour, a swapped photo) are usually back the same day.

Can you take card payments or build an online shop for my Bermondsey stall?

+

Basic product showcase pages, yes — photos, descriptions, prices, an enquiry form. Full e-commerce checkout with card processing, no — I don't build those. For a proper shop with payments, I can point you at someone who does that work.

How long does it take to go live?

+

Once we've agreed the brief, 1-2 weeks to a live link on your own domain. Smaller sites (a one-page trader or a single café site) often turn around faster. There's no project manager and no committee — it's just me, so things move.
