Horsham is a market town on the upper River Arun, with a recorded history going back to 947 AD and a charter older than most Sussex towns. The centre is small and walkable — the Carfax bandstand sits where West Street, East Street, North Street and South Street meet, and Swan Walk runs off it as a covered centre of mostly chain retail. Queen Street, a few minutes' walk south, holds most of the antiques and a tight run of independents.
