Websites for Derby businesses

Derby runs on Cathedral Quarter indie traders, Markeaton Park dog-walkers, and the world's largest rail cluster in the same DE postcodes.

Derby is a working city, not a tourist one. Derby Cathedral and the QUAD art centre anchor the Cathedral Quarter, where the city's two BIDs represent hundreds of levy-paying businesses and regularly report thirty-plus new openings in a year. Markeaton Park is the green lung, with Parkrun every Saturday and a Mini Museum that's been there for decades. The biggest employers, Rolls-Royce, Toyota and Bombardier, sit in the city's industrial shadow, and the £200m Becketwell regeneration, with its new performance venue, has reshaped the south side of the centre since 2023.

Working with Derby

The Derby small business scene is mostly invisible if you only walk the chain-shop core. The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter BIDs cover the city centre, and their 2024 joint report logged over thirty new independents opening in a single year. Derby Market Hall reopened with permanent stalls and a rolling programme of pop-up traders; the October 2025 wave added Vintage & Vinyl and a traditional haberdashery, with a further wave in January 2026. Out on St Peter's Street, Osmaston Road and London Road the picture is more mixed, as national chains closed in 2025, but independent cafés and trades keep opening alongside. Most of the small firms I work with in DE1 through DE24 are sole traders, cafés, salons or tradesmen who need a clean site, not a platform.

Every Derby site is hand-coded, mobile-first, and shipped on its own domain. There's nothing for you to maintain — hosting, SSL, backups, updates and small content edits are all in the £25/month plan. You'll deal directly with me from brief to launch, by email or WhatsApp, in plain English.

Local economy

Real Derby small businesses, not stock photos

Every Derby brief lands somewhere on the same map of shops, salons, trades and indie operators. Here are some of the real Derby businesses I've researched while writing this page — the kind of place a clean £25/month site is built for.

Some Derby independents we'd happily sit next to
  • Derby Market Hall

Indoor market with permanent and pop-up traders

Reopened with restored stalls; October 2025 and January 2026 waves of new independent traders (Vintage & Vinyl, a haberdashery, a fashion boutique).

  • QUAD

    Arts centre and independent cinema

Long-running cultural venue in the Cathedral Quarter; partners with the BID on the CQ Cinema Presents outdoor film programme.

  • Becketwell Performance Venue

    New performance and conference venue

£45.8m venue at the heart of the £200m Becketwell regeneration, built as phase two of the scheme and opening in 2025.

  • Springwell Square

New public square and event space

Phase one of Becketwell regeneration; delivered alongside the performance venue to host outdoor events.

Why these industries cluster here
  • Rail and advanced manufacturing

Derby's own City Centre Masterplan describes it as home to Rolls-Royce, Toyota UK and Bombardier, and 'the world's largest rail cluster', with 11.8% of the workforce in high-tech functions.

  • Aerospace and automotive engineering

Rolls-Royce's aerospace operations and Toyota's UK manufacturing base are the two largest single employers referenced across Derby City Council and Marketing Derby regeneration material.

  • Independent retail and hospitality

The Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter BIDs jointly track new openings, and their 2024 report logged over thirty new independents in a single year.

Derby Market Hall welcomed a new wave of independent traders in October 2025 (including Vintage & Vinyl) and added a further wave of stalls in January 2026, while Vinci UK Developments and Ion Developments lined up a Market Place regeneration scheme for an early 2026 planning submission (https://www.constructionenquirer.com/2025/11/17/derby-market-place-scheme-heads-for-planning-in-new-year/).

FAQs

Derby web design — common questions

Do you build sites for businesses across DE1, DE3, DE21, DE22, DE23 and DE24?

+

Yes, all of them. I work with sole traders, cafés, tradesmen and small shops across the Derby postcodes, including the city centre, Allestree, Mickleover, Chaddesden, Sinfin, Oakwood and Littleover. The £25/month plan and 1-2 week turnaround are the same wherever you are in DE.

Will my Derby site show up on Google?

+

I include basic on-page SEO with every site, so sensible page titles, descriptions and fast loads. I don't offer ongoing SEO, link building, Google Business Profile management or content marketing. If you need any of those, I'd rather tell you up front than sell you something I don't do.

What about the Becketwell regeneration, will that affect my business?

+

Becketwell is a £200m scheme on the south side of the centre. Phase one, Springwell Square, is complete, and the new £45.8m performance venue opened in 2025 to bring an extra 250,000 visitors a year. I'm watching how footfall shifts around Bold Lane and the surrounding streets the same way you are.

Can I add a brand new page to my site after launch?

+

New pages or whole new sections are a separate conversation and not in the monthly fee. The £25/month plan covers small content edits like phone numbers, prices, swapped photos or a new line of text, usually back the same day. A brand-new page is a one-off job we'll agree a price for first.

Do you do e-commerce or an online shop?

+

I can build a simple product showcase for a small range of items, but I don't offer full checkout, payment processing or a webshop platform. The £25/month plan is for hand-coded business sites, not online stores.
