Websites for Coulsdon businesses

The Croydon suburb where Farthing Downs meets the Brighton Road parade, and an Aldi now stands where the Red Lion coaching inn used to.

Coulsdon is a town in the London Borough of Croydon, sitting on the North Downs and serving the CR5 postcode. The current town centre grew up around the Brighton Road, where the old London-to-Brighton coach route once dropped into the chalk valley of Smitham Bottom — the area renamed Coulsdon by the GPO in 1905, displacing the older village of Old Coulsdon to the south-east. Coulsdon has two railway stations — Coulsdon Town on the Tattenham Corner line and Coulsdon South on the Brighton main line — and is bordered on the north by Farthing Downs and Coulsdon Common, both bought by the City of London in 1883 to keep them as open ground.

Working with Coulsdon

The high-street economy on Coulsdon's Brighton Road runs on independent retailers, cafés and a handful of estate agents — Grumpy Goose and Nonna Rosa's Café are the kind of small, owner-run places that anchor a CR5 afternoon, and T2FIT runs a 2,500-sq-ft personal training gym on Coulsdon Road for the fitness crowd. The Marlpit Lane industrial estate to the north is a different world: a former chalk quarry that closed in 1961, it is now the Marlpit Business Park, strong in storage, distribution and technology units and quietly employing a lot of CR5 workers. Old Coulsdon's parade keeps a quieter village-shop rhythm. At the old Smitham Bottom junction, a 20,000-sq-ft Aldi was built on the site of the old Red Lion coaching inn as part of the 2006 Farthing Way relief road scheme that finally took the A23 traffic off the high street.

Every Coulsdon site is hand-coded, mobile-first, and shipped on its own domain. There's nothing for you to maintain — hosting, SSL, backups, updates and small content edits are all in the £25/month plan. You'll deal directly with me from brief to launch, by email or WhatsApp, in plain English.

  • Chalk quarrying and lime burning

  • Storage, distribution and light industry

Wikipedia describes the Marlpit Business Park on Marlpit Lane as 'strong in storage, distribution and technology', and the Croydon industrial estates on the edge of CR5 also pull in a similar trade crowd.

Croydon Council's 2024/25 town centre regeneration programme grouped Coulsdon with Norbury, Addiscombe and South Croydon as district centres to receive public-realm and high-street improvements, with a £7.2m Growth Zone budget approved in January 2024 (sources: Croydon Council / developcroydon.com).

FAQs

Coulsdon web design — common questions

Do you build sites for businesses across the whole CR5 postcode, including Old Coulsdon and the Marlpit?

+

Yes — anywhere in CR5: Coulsdon, Old Coulsdon, the Marlpit Lane industrial estate, Clockhouse and Cane Hill. Most of the Coulsdon jobs I take on are cafés, tradesmen, gyms and small professional services, and the £25/month plan and 1-2 week turnaround don't change by neighbourhood.

Will you set up my Google Business Profile as part of the build?

+

No — and that's deliberate. The £25/month plan covers the website itself: hosting, SSL, backups, software updates, and same-day small content edits when something changes. I don't do Google Business Profile work, SEO packages or Google Ads. If you need help with your GBP, I can point you to someone in the Croydon area.

Can you take on a Coulsdon tradesman or a one-room gym, or is that too small?

+

That's exactly the brief. Most of the Coulsdon jobs I do are sole-trader electricians, plumbers, builders and small personal-training gyms, often with a single page that lists services, a contact form and a number that rings on the right phone. Hand-coded, mobile-first, no WordPress or page builders, live in 1-2 weeks.

Do you do SEO, blogs, or Google Business Profile?

+

No — and that's deliberate. The £25/month plan is for a clean, quick website on its own domain, with the basic on-page SEO sorted (sensible page titles, descriptions, fast loads). It is not a marketing package. If you want someone to actively manage your Google Business Profile, run a blog, or chase rankings, this isn't the right service — I'd rather say so upfront.

What if I need to change something after launch?

+

Small changes are on me — a new phone number, a price tweak, a swapped photo, a new line of text. Send it over WhatsApp or email, usually back to you the same day. If you want to add a brand new section or a new page after we've agreed the original brief, we can talk about it.
